Editing

Every chapter is yours to change.

Edit any chapter by hand in a real editor, or describe the change and let the AI redo it. You see every change before it’s saved.

  • Editing by hand is free
  • Review every AI change
  • Nothing saved until you say

Before a word is written

Shape the plan first.

The chapter plan arrives before any chapter is written, so the biggest changes cost nothing.

  • Rename, reorder or cut chapters.
  • Make one chapter longer or shorter than the rest.
  • Change the title, the genre and who it’s written for.

Edit by hand

A real editor, on the book’s own paper.

Each chapter opens on the same page you read it on. Change anything the way you would in a doc, then save.

  • Paragraph styles, bold, italic, links, lists and quotes.
  • Insert a heading, tip box, table, image with a caption, divider or page break.
  • Your draft is kept on your device until you press Save chapter, so a closed tab doesn’t lose it.

Edit with AI

Describe the change. Review every word.

Tell the AI what to change in plain words. It redoes the chapter, and you see what changed before anything is saved.

  • One instruction for the whole chapter, or a quick one: shorter, simpler words, warmer tone, add a checklist.
  • Switch between Show changes, New version and Original.
  • Accept all, try again, or discard. It costs what writing the chapter did: about 3 credits for 1,000 words.

Whole chapters

Rewrite, move or delete.

Every chapter on the book page has a ⋯ menu. The book itself can be renamed or deleted from its own menu.

  • Rewrite a chapter for a fresh draft from the plan, for the same credits as writing it.
  • Move a chapter up or down; the numbers and the plan follow.
  • Delete a chapter you don’t need. A book keeps at least 3.

What it costs

Editing by hand is free. The AI is priced per chapter.

Questions about editing

Is editing free?

Editing by hand is free, as often as you like, and so are moving, deleting and renaming. The AI costs credits: Edit with AI and Rewrite each cost what writing the chapter did, about 3 credits for 1,000 words, and the price is shown before anything runs.

Can the AI change just one paragraph?

Not on its own. Edit with AI works on a whole chapter, so it can keep the chapter consistent. Say exactly what to change, such as “add an example after the section on hours”, and the review shows you every edit, so you can see that nothing else moved.

What if I don’t like what the AI wrote?

Discard it and the chapter stays exactly as it was. You can also try again with a different instruction, or compare the new version with the original before you decide.

Will my own edits survive an AI edit?

Yes, if you ask for that. When you have edited a chapter by hand and then open Edit with AI, a “Keep my manual edits” box tells the AI to work around your changes.

Do my edits show up in the downloads?

Yes. The PDF, EPUB and Word files are made from the book as it is when you download, so every edit, tip box, table and picture is in them.

Can I edit the book in Word instead?

Yes. Download it as a Word document and carry on in Word or Google Docs. Edits made there stay in your file; they don’t come back into BookArc.

Write it, then make it yours.

Describe your book in one sentence. BookArc writes it, and every chapter opens in the editor. 30 credits free, no card.
